The Covenant: Justice and Righteousness
(1) God said to Abram, “Go forth from your land, from your birthplace, and from your father’s house to the land that I will show you. (2) I will make of you a great nation, And I will bless you; I will make your name great, And you shall be a blessing."
(4) “As for Me, this is My covenant with you: You shall be the father of a multitude of nations. (5) And you shall no longer be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham, for I make you the father of a multitude of nations. (6) I will make you exceedingly fruitful, and make nations of you; and kings shall come forth from you. (7) I will maintain My covenant between Me and you, and your offspring to come, as an everlasting covenant throughout the ages, to be God to you and to your offspring to come. (8) I will give unto you and your progeny the land you sojourn, all the land of Canaan, as an everlasting possession. And I will be their God.”
Now the Holy One said: "Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do? Seeing that Abraham is to become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him. For I have known him, in order that he may instruct his children and his household after him, that they may keep the way of the Holy One, to do righteousness and justice in order that I bring to Abraham all that God promised to him.
"I am the Holy One
who enacts covenantal love,
justice, and righteousness on earth;
for in these do I delight,"
says the Holy One.
Learn to do good,
Seek justice,
Relieve the oppressed,
Bring justice for the orphan,
Seek defense for the widow.
Justice, justice, you shall seek,
so that you may live
and inherit the land
which the Holy One, your God, is giving to you.
Treasures of wickedness profit nothing;
but righteousness saves from death.
Sow for yourselves in righteousness,
reap in faithfulness.
Till for yourselves tilled ground,
and it is time to seek the Holy One
until God comes and teaches you righteousness.
