929/Bamidbar 34-Devarim 2: A Lot, Enough, Too Much

(6) The LORD our God spoke to us at Horeb, saying: You have stayed long enough at this mountain.

(3) You have been skirting this hill country long enough; now turn north.

(3) They combined against Moses and Aaron and said to them, “You have gone too far! For all the community are holy, all of them, and the LORD is in their midst. Why then do you raise yourselves above the LORD’s congregation?”

(7) and tomorrow put fire in them and lay incense on them before the LORD. Then the man whom the LORD chooses, he shall be the holy one. You have gone too far, sons of Levi!”

(19) Only your wives, children, and livestock—I know that you have much livestock—shall be left in the towns I have assigned to you,

(26) But the LORD was wrathful with me on your account and would not listen to me. The LORD said to me, “Enough! Never speak to Me of this matter again!

“And the Lord said to me: Let it suffice for you [rav lakh]; speak no more to Me of this matter” (Deuteronomy 3:26). (1) Rabbi Levi says: Moses declared the people with the term “rav,” and so he was declared with the term “rav”: He proclaimed with the term “rav” when speaking with the congregation of Korah: “You take too much upon you [rav lakhem], you sons of Levi” (Numbers 16:7), and it was proclaimed to him with the term “rav,” when Hashem denied him entry into Israel: “Let it suffice for you [rav lakh].” (2) Another reading: “rav lakh”, meaning: You now have a rav, and who is it? Joshua. (3) Alternatively: “rav lakh” meaning: You have a rav, i.e., God, who bars your entry to Israel. Lest people say: How harsh is the Master and how stubborn the student.

(28) So the king took counsel and made two golden calves. He said to the people, “You have been going up to Jerusalem long enough. This is your god, O Israel, who brought you up from the land of Egypt!”

(6) And say to the rebellious House of Israel: Thus said the Lord GOD: Too long, O House of Israel, have you committed all your abominations,

(9) Thus said the Lord GOD: Enough, princes of Israel! Make an end of lawlessness and rapine, and do what is right and just! Put a stop to your evictions of My people—declares the Lord GOD.

King's sanctuary, royal city,
Arise and go from the upheaval.
Too long have you dwelt in the valley of weeping. Now he will embrace you with compassion.

(6) ...Yehoshua ben Perachia says, "Make for yourself a mentor, acquire for yourself a friend and judge every person as meritorious."

(16) The Angel who redeemed me from all harm: Bless the lads. In them may my name and the names of my fathers Abraham and Isaac be recalled, and may they be teeming multitudes in the land.”

(26) And God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. They shall rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, the cattle, the whole earth, and all the creeping things that creep on earth.”

The humility of Hashem is learned from here: because the man is in the likeness of the angels and they might envy him, therefore He took counsel with them (Tanchuma, Shemot 18 Gen. Rabbah 8).

(1) When men began to increase on earth and daughters were born to them, (2) the divine beings saw how beautiful the daughters of men were and took wives from among those that pleased them.—

(25) And she went on, “There is plenty of straw and feed at home, and also room to spend the night.”

(60) And they blessed Rebekah and said to her, “O sister! May you grow Into thousands of myriads; May your offspring seize The gates of their foes.”

(23) and the LORD answered her, “Two nations are in your womb, Two separate peoples shall issue from your body; One people shall be mightier than the other, And the older shall serve the younger.”

(9) Esau said, “I have enough, my brother; let what you have remain yours.”

(7) For their possessions were too many for them to dwell together, and the land where they sojourned could not support them because of their livestock.

(28) Israel said, “Enough! My son Joseph lives! I must go and see him before I die.”
