Abarbanel: Gilgal is significant as it was the place that the Mishkan was built at the times of Yehoshua.
Abarbanel: When Eliyahu tells Elisha to stay, he's really saying, be satisfied with the spirituality that you have.
(א) שב נא פה . חפץ היה לדחותו מחמת ענוה , שלא יראה בהלקחו.
חפץ- he wanted
לדחותו - to leave him
ענוה - Transliterated- Anava.
בהלקחו- from the word Lakach
(א) שב נא פה כי ה' שלחני עד בית אל . ראוי שתדע שלא עשה זה אליהו לתכלית שלא יאציל עליו מן הרוח אשר עליו על אלישע שהרי צוהו הש''י שימשח אלישע בן שפט לנביא תחתיו ואמנם אמר זה לו כדי שלא יחרד אלישע בהפרד אליהו ממנו אם יראה שינשא בסער' השמי' :
ראוי - appropriate
לתכלית- for the purpose
יאציל -lose
צוהו - from the word Mitzvah
הש''י - Hashem Yitborach
שימשח - from the word Mashach/Mashiach
יחרד - afraid
בהפרד - separate
(יב) וַֽיַּחֲלֹ֗ם וְהִנֵּ֤ה סֻלָּם֙ מֻצָּ֣ב אַ֔רְצָה וְרֹאשׁ֖וֹ מַגִּ֣יעַ הַשָּׁמָ֑יְמָה וְהִנֵּה֙ מַלְאֲכֵ֣י אֱלֹהִ֔ים עֹלִ֥ים וְיֹרְדִ֖ים בּֽוֹ׃

(ג) ויהי נא פי שנים על ידי שרוחך נצטרף אלי וגם יל''פ שאמר
(ד) פי שנים הנמצא ברוחך יהיה אלי, כי אליהו היה ברוחו פי שנים מיתר הנביאים, ובקש שיגיע הוא עתה למדרגה זו,

Musar Ha'Neviim: Elisha wanted to be able to perform double the amount of miracles as Eliyahu. Because of the decline of spirituality in the next generation, Elisha felt he would need to perform more miracles.
Radak: Pasuk 10: If Elisha would merit seeing Eliyahu's departure then he would also merit having his request granted.
Metzudat David, Pasuk 10: At the moment of his departure, Eliyahu would be granted a higher level of prophecy that would allow him to give over more to Elisha.
