וישלח פרי צדיק סימן יא

(ח) וַיָּשֶׂם אֶת הַשְּׁפָחוֹת וְאֶת יַלְדֵיהֶן רִאשֹׁנָה (בראשית לג, ב), הֲדָא אָמְרָה אַחֲרוֹן אַחֲרוֹן חָבִיב. (בראשית לג, ג): וְהוּא עָבַר לִפְנֵיהֶם, הֲדָא הוּא דִכְתִיב (תהלים קג, יג): כְּרַחֵם אָב עַל בָּנִים, תָּנֵי רַבִּי חִיָּיא כָּרַחֲמָן שֶׁבָּאָבוֹת, וְאֵי זֶה הוּא רַחֲמָן שֶׁבָּאָבוֹת, רַבִּי יְהוּדָה אָמַר זֶה אַבְרָהָם, אָמַר אַבְרָהָם (בראשית יח, כה): חָלִלָה לְּךָ מֵעֲשׂת כַּדָּבָר הַזֶּה. רַבִּי לֵוִי אָמַר יַעֲקֹב, וְהוּא עָבַר לִפְנֵיהֶם, אָמַר טַב דְּיִגַּע בִּי וְלָא בְהוֹן. (בראשית לג, ג): וַיִּשְׁתַּחוּ אַרְצָה שֶׁבַע פְּעָמִים, לָמָּה שֶׁבַע עַל שֵׁם (משלי כד, טז): כִּי שֶׁבַע יִפּוֹל צַדִּיק וָקָם. דָּבָר אַחֵר, לָמָּה שֶׁבַע, אָמַר לוֹ הֱוֵי רוֹאֶה אֶת עַצְמְךָ כְּאִלּוּ אַתְּ נָתוּן לִפְנִים מִשִּׁבְעָה קִינְקָלִין וְיוֹשֵׁב וְדָן וַאֲנִי נִדּוֹן לְפָנֶיךָ וְאַתְּ מִתְמַלֵּא עָלַי רַחֲמִים. אָמַר רַבִּי חֲנִינָא בַּר יִצְחָק לֹא זָז מִשְׁתַּטֵּחַ וְהוֹלֵךְ מִשְׁתַּטֵּחַ וְהוֹלֵךְ עַד שֶׁהִכְנִיס מִדַּת הַדִּין לְמִדַּת רַחֲמִים.

(יט) בְּשֵׁ֣שׁ צָ֭רוֹת יַצִּילֶ֑ךָּ וּבְשֶׁ֓בַע ׀ לֹא־יִגַּ֖ע בְּךָ֣ רָֽע׃
(19) He will deliver you from six troubles; In seven no harm will reach you:
(כ) אָמַ֙רְתָּ֙ אַךְ־דְּבַר־שְׂפָתַ֔יִם עֵצָ֥ה וּגְבוּרָ֖ה לַמִּלְחָמָ֑ה עַתָּה֙ עַל־מִ֣י בָטַ֔חְתָּ כִּ֥י מָרַ֖דְתָּ בִּֽי׃
(20) You must think that mere talk is counsel and valor for war! Look, on whom are you relying, that you have rebelled against me?
(ו) תּוֹרַ֤ת אֱמֶת֙ הָיְתָ֣ה בְּפִ֔יהוּ וְעַוְלָ֖ה לֹא־נִמְצָ֣א בִשְׂפָתָ֑יו בְּשָׁל֤וֹם וּבְמִישׁוֹר֙ הָלַ֣ךְ אִתִּ֔י וְרַבִּ֖ים הֵשִׁ֥יב מֵעָוֺֽן׃ (ז) כִּֽי־שִׂפְתֵ֤י כֹהֵן֙ יִשְׁמְרוּ־דַ֔עַת וְתוֹרָ֖ה יְבַקְשׁ֣וּ מִפִּ֑יהוּ כִּ֛י מַלְאַ֥ךְ יְהוָֽה־צְבָא֖וֹת הֽוּא׃
(6) Proper rulings were in his mouth, And nothing perverse was on his lips; He served Me with complete loyalty And held the many back from iniquity. (7) For the lips of a priest guard knowledge, And men seek rulings from his mouth; For he is a messenger of the LORD of Hosts.
(טז) וְדִבֶּר־ה֥וּא לְךָ֖ אֶל־הָעָ֑ם וְהָ֤יָה הוּא֙ יִֽהְיֶה־לְּךָ֣ לְפֶ֔ה וְאַתָּ֖ה תִּֽהְיֶה־לּ֥וֹ לֵֽאלֹהִֽים׃
(16) and he shall speak for you to the people. Thus he shall serve as your spokesman, with you playing the role of God to him,

תניא אמר רבן גמליאל בשלשה דברים אוהב אני את הפרסיים הן צנועין באכילתן וצנועין בבית הכסא וצנועין בדבר אחר:

It was taught in a baraita, Rabban Gamliel said: In three aspects of their conduct, I like the Persians: They are a modest people; they are modest in their eating, they are modest in the lavatory, and they are modest in another matter, i.e., sexual relations.

אני צויתי למקדשי תני רב יוסף אלו הפרסיים המקודשין ומזומנין לגיהנם:
While they have been praised here regarding certain specific aspects of their conduct, the Gemara proceeds to offer another perspective on the Persians based on a verse describing the destruction of Babylonia at the hands of the Persian and Medean armies: “I have commanded My consecrated ones; I have also called My mighty ones for My anger, even My proudly exulting ones” (Isaiah 13:3). Rav Yosef taught a baraita: These are the Persians who are consecrated and designated for Gehenna, for they have been sent by God to carry out his mission of anger, and they will be sent to Gehenna.
בערב היא באה ובבקר היא שבה אמר רבי יוחנן מגנותו של אותו רשע למדנו שבחו שלא היה משמש מטתו ביום

The verse states: “In the evening she went, and in the morning she returned” (Esther 2:14). Rabbi Yoḥanan said: From the implicit criticism of that wicked man, Ahasuerus, who cohabited with many women, we have incidentally learned his praise as well, that he would not engage in sexual relations during the day, but in a more modest fashion at night.

למה ליה למימרא להו והא אמר רב הונא ישראל קדושים הן ואין משמשין מטותיהן ביום הא אמר רבא אם היה בית אפל מותר ואמר רבא ואיתימא רב פפא תלמיד חכם מאפיל בטליתו ומותר

The Gemara asks: Why did he need to tell them to separate during the morning hours? Didn’t Rav Huna say: The Jewish people are holy and do not have relations during the day? It was not necessary to command them until night. The Gemara replies: It was necessary to tell them in the morning, as Rava said: If it was a dark house, it is permitted to have relations during the day. And similarly Rava said, and some say that Rav Pappa said: A Torah scholar obscures the light in the room with his cloak and is thereby permitted to have relations during the day. Therefore, it was necessary to command the people to separate even during the daytime hours.
