(1) O how has the city that was once so populous remained lonely! She has become like a widow! She that was great among the nations, a princess among the provinces, has become tributary.
(4) One thing have I asked of YHVH, that will I seek after: That I may dwell in the house of the YHVH all the days of my life, To behold the graciousness of the YHVH and to visit early in His temple.
(9) And YHVH God called unto the man, and said unto him: ‘Where art thou?’
(5) And YHVH descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of YHVH 6) And YHVH passed by before him, and proclaimed: ‘YHVH, YHVH, God, merciful and gracious, long-suffering, and abundant in goodness and truth; (7) keeping mercy unto the thousandth generation, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin; and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, unto the third and unto the fourth generation.’
(1) But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was angry. (2) And he prayed unto YHVH, and said: ‘I pray Thee, O YHVH, was not this my saying, when I was yet in mine own country? Therefore I fled beforehand unto Tarshish; for I knew that Thou art a gracious God, and compassionate, long-suffering, and abundant in mercy, and repentest Thee of the evil. (3) Therefore now, O YHVH, take, I beseech Thee, my life from me; for it is better for me to die than to live.’ (4) And YHVH said: ‘Art thou greatly angry?’ (5) Then Jonah went out of the city, and sat on the east side of the city, and there made him a booth, and sat under it in the shadow, till he might see what would become of the city.
