(יח) וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוָ֜ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֗ה קַח־לְךָ֙ אֶת־יְהוֹשֻׁ֣עַ בִּן־נ֔וּן אִ֖ישׁ אֲשֶׁר־ר֣וּחַ בּ֑וֹ וְסָמַכְתָּ֥ אֶת־יָדְךָ֖ עָלָֽיו׃ (יט) וְהַֽעֲמַדְתָּ֣ אֹת֗וֹ לִפְנֵי֙ אֶלְעָזָ֣ר הַכֹּהֵ֔ן וְלִפְנֵ֖י כָּל־הָעֵדָ֑ה וְצִוִּיתָ֥ה אֹת֖וֹ לְעֵינֵיהֶֽם׃ (כ) וְנָתַתָּ֥ה מֵהֽוֹדְךָ֖ עָלָ֑יו לְמַ֣עַן יִשְׁמְע֔וּ כָּל־עֲדַ֖ת בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (כא) וְלִפְנֵ֨י אֶלְעָזָ֤ר הַכֹּהֵן֙ יַעֲמֹ֔ד וְשָׁ֥אַל ל֛וֹ בְּמִשְׁפַּ֥ט הָאוּרִ֖ים לִפְנֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה עַל־פִּ֨יו יֵצְא֜וּ וְעַל־פִּ֣יו יָבֹ֗אוּ ה֛וּא וְכָל־בְּנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֥ל אִתּ֖וֹ וְכָל־הָעֵדָֽה׃
(18) And the LORD said unto Moses: ‘Take thee Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is spirit, and lay thy hand upon him; (19) and set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation; and give him a charge in their sight. (20) And thou shalt put of thy honour upon him, that all the congregation of the children of Israel may hearken. (21) And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire for him by the judgment of the Urim before the LORD; at his word shall they go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he, and all the children of Israel with him, even all the congregation.’
(א) קח לך. קחנו בדברים אשריך שזכית להנהיג בניו של מקום:
Take thee Take him with (kind) words. Fortunate are you that you have merited to the lead the children of the Omnipresent

(יד) וידבר משה אל ה' לאמר יפקד ה' אלהי הרוחות - כל מי שמבקש צרכי צבור, כאלו בא בזרוע. יפקד ה' מה ראה לבקש הדבר הזה אחר סדר נחלות? אלא, כיון שירשו בנות צלפחד אביהן, אמר משה: הרי השעה שאתבע בה צרכי, אם הבנות יורשות, בדין הוא שירשו בני את כבודי. אמר לו הקב"ה (משלי כז): נוצר תאנה יאכל פריה, בניך ישבו להם ולא עסקו בתורה, יהושע הרבה שרתך והרבה חלק לך כבוד, והוא היה משכים ומעריב בבית הועד שלך, הוא היה מסדר את הספסלים והוא פורס את המחצלאות, הואיל והוא שרתך בכל כחו, כדאי הוא שישמש את ישראל, שאינו מאבד שכרו. קח לך את יהושע בן נון, לקיים מה שנאמר: נוצר תאנה יאכל פריה:
And Moses spoke to the Lord, saying: Let the Lord the God of spirits of all flesh, set man over the congregation. Who so petitions for the needs of the community is like one who comes with main force. Let the Lord... set that was the reason for asking this after declaring the order of inheritance? Just this: that when the daughters of Zelophchad inherited from their father, Moses argued: The time is opportune for me to demand my own needs. If the daughters inherit, it is surely right that my sons should inherit my glory. The Holy One Blessed be He, said to him: ‘Whoso keepeth the fig tree shall eat of the fruit thereof; and he that waiteth on his master shall be honoured’ (Proverbs 27:18). Your sons sat idly by and did not study the Torah. Joshua served you much and showed you great honour. It was he who rose early in the morning and remained late at night at the House of Assembly; he used to arrange the benches, and he used to spread the mats. Seeing that he has served you with all of his might, he is worthy to serve Israel, for he shall not lose his reward. Take thee Joshua the son of Nun (27:18). This serves to confirm the text, Whoso keepeth the fig tree shall eat of the fruit thereof.’ ...
