גדול כבוד הבריות שדוחה [את] לא תעשה שבתורה. ואמאי? לימא: אין חכמה ואין תבונה ואין עצה לנגד ה'! - תרגמה רב בר שבא קמיה דרב כהנא בלאו (דברים י"ז) דלא תסור. אחיכו עליה: לאו דלא תסור דאורייתא היא! אמר רב כהנא: גברא רבה אמר מילתא לא תחיכו עליה, כל מילי דרבנן אסמכינהו על לאו דלא תסור, ומשום כבודו שרו רבנן.
Human dignity is so important that it abrogates biblical prohibition. . . Rav the son of Shava translated this statement in front of Rav Kahana [with regards to] the prohibition of “You shall not deviate [from that which they tell you]”. . . For the Rabbis rested all of their words on the prohibition of you shall not deviate, and because of [humanity's] dignity the Rabbis permitted them.
