Babylonian Talmud, Pesachim 115b
תלמוד בבלי מסכת פסחים דף קטו עמוד ב
אמר רבא: בלע מצה - יצא, בלע מרור - לא יצא.
Rava teaches, “One who swallows the matzah without chewing has fulfilled the obligation of eat matzah. However, one who swallows the maror (bitter herb) without chewing does not fulfill the obligation of eating maror. [Translation by Uri L’Tzedek]

Suggested Discussion Questions:

1. Jews are commanded to eat both matzah and maror at the Passover seder. Why do we fulfill our obligation by swallowing matzah but not maror, which is supposed to remind us of the bitterness of being slaves in Egypt?

2. How does remembering and reliving traumatic experiences contribute to our roles in the world today? What do we gain from this experience?
