What is considered lost property? If one found an ass or a cow grazing by the way, this is not lost property. An ass with its trapping awry or a cow running among the vineyards is considered to be lost property. He returned it and it escaped again, he returned it and it escaped again, even four or five times, he is obligated to return it, as it is said, "you shall surely bring them back" (Deut. 22:1). If she lost a sela, she may not say to her, "Give me a sela," but she pays her her wages as to an unemployed laborer.
