Babylonian Talmud, Eruvin 100b
תלמוד בבלי ,עירובין ק עמוד ב
אמר רבי יוחנן: אילמלא לא ניתנה תורה היינו למידין צניעות מחתול, וגזל מנמלה, ועריות מיונה
Rabbi Yochanan said: Had the Torah not been given, we would have learned modesty from the cat, [aversion to] theft from the ant, chastity from the dove, and [conjugal] manners from fowl.[Translated by David Strauss]

Suggested Discussion Questions:

1. What is Rabbi Yochanan observing about the world? Why doesn't he believe we would implicitly learn such behaviors?

2. What other behaviors can we learn from other creatures?

Time Period: Rabbinic (Maccabees through the Talmud)
