Some scholars see in פרץ (= to spread, extend) a separate base and connect it with Arab. rafaḍa (= scattered, spread). However the meaning ‘to spread, extend’, can easily be derived from the meaning ‘to break through (a wall)’, whence ‘to go over or beyond, to spread’. cp. ברץ (= to overflow), which is prob. a secondary form of base פרץ ᴵ. cp. also פזר ᴵ.]
