מַשְׁכּוֹן m.n. (pl. מַשְׁכּוֹנוֹת, also מַשְׁכּוֹנִים) , security, pledge. [Borrowed from Akka. mashkānu (= dwelling place, place; deposit), whence also Aram. מַשְׁכּוֹנָא, Syr. מֶשְׁכָּנָא, from shakānu (= to lay, set, deposit), which is related to Heb. שָׁכַן (= he dwelled, abode). See שׁלן. Arab. muskān is an Aram. loan word. cp. מַשְׁכַּנְתָּה. cp. also מִסְכְּנוֹת.]
