כּוֹבַע m. (b. h.; כבע, cmp. גבע a. denominatives) helmet, turban. Ber. 24ᵃ מניחן בכ׳ וכ׳ let him put them (the T’fillin) into the turban under his pillow. Gitt. 14ᵇ (of the Persians) כּוֹבְעָן אמה their turban is one cubit high; a. e.—Pl. כּוֹבְעִים, כּוֹבְעִין. Gen. R. s. 99 לובשי כ׳ wearing helmets. Y. Gitt. I, end, 43ᵈ; Y. Kidd. III, 64ᵃ bot. כּוֹבְעֵיהֶן אמה (v. supra).—Trnsf. the thyroid cartilage, Adam’s apple. Ḥull. 19ᵃ משיפוי כ׳ וכ׳ from where the thyroid cartilage begins to protrude and downward.
